Image guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) simply put means that the treatment area is imaged prior to treatment daily, in order to guide the radiation therapist with patient setup and ensure that the treatment area is within the targeted volume.

On the CyberKnife M6 at Premier Cancer Centers, we utilize KV X-ray imagers that consistently take images up to every 15 seconds to ensure patient movement is minimal. The CyberKnife M6 and RoboCouch can then compensate for patient movement and the treatment may stop until the patient is back within the treatment parameters.

On the TomoTherapy H Series, a low-dose CT scan of only the treatment area is taken daily to check correct patient setup and adjust the patient as necessary. This way, the therapist can also visualize the tumor and patient's body daily and notify the physician of changes.
